Jim James & The Damn Shames: words & music

Elvis On The Metra

(James Travis)
We was going downtown one Saturday night
Just Christy Lee and Me
We got on board about Libertyville and we took our window seats
It was down around Western Avenue
And guess what we did see
Big sun glasses and long lamb chops
We just could not believe
He was waiting for the train
Just like anybody else!!
But we knew it was him by his big wide belt...

Well he got on board and sat on down just across the way
I looked at him and he looked at me
I did not know what to say
Christy got up and she danced a jig
And he began to sing
Something about his new little sister
And a great big diamond ring
I said "Hey! Ho! What do you know?!
It's really the king, now Go Cat Go!"

It's Elvis On The Metra
Be glad he ain't gone and left yet
And gone back down to Memphis,
That's Elvis On The Metra
He's got a one night stand in Chicago!
Then he's going back down to his sweet home
That's Elvis On The Metra
Elvis On The Metra

We pulled into the station
But before we said Goodbye
He looked on down over the top of his glasses with those big ol' brown eyes
He said "Son, let me impart on you just a little bit of advice
Just keep on rockin' that good old way and you too will never die!"
Then the crowd surged and he was gone (Real Gone!)
But we can all still sing along with...
